Avalanche and Altitude finally have options available to everyone

When the Colorado Avalanche moved to Denver in 1995, television and sports were simple. The Avalanche were being shown, along with the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rockies, on the local channel 20. Then the model changed to the regional channels. You had to subscribe to a cable channel to watch your favorite teams, but it was doable. The problem with the regional model was that it just kept getting more expensive to keep on the air. Altitude really never had problems until October 2019. Providers started pushing back on their fee and eventually Comcast, the biggest provider in the Denver region, has yet to pick them back up.

Altitude finally has a fix

As of this morning, Altitude has announced that they have partnered with TEGNA to provide 20 games for free from local channels 9 and 20. Just like in the old days. These broadcasts will still appear just as if they were on Altitude, just being shown for free from local television stations. This will be beside the 17 nationally televised games already in place this upcoming season.

The app we have all been waiting for

Several teams have come up with apps to download on your device and watch the games that way. Altitude has had an app available in previous years, but you had to be subscribed to the channel to get access. Those days have ended. Altitude+ will now be available to everyone in the nine state market for $19.95 per month. There, you can watch the channel just like normal. This will be an option to catch EVERY game other than the nationally broadcasted games.

Conclusion

The team has finally acknowledged the voices of the fans. They will have an option to watch the team, no matter what cable subscription you have, for the first time in nearly five years. It may not be a perfect option, but considering the circumstances, it is a start. This could be a lasting option that we will see for upcoming seasons and beyond, but this is an option that could make everyone happy.
