Blackhawks terminate professional tryout agreement and sign veteran defenseman to one year deal
This morning right as practice began, the Blackhawks snuck out a press release announcing that they had inked defenseman Brandon Davidson to a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum salary of $650,000. This was also the first time the Blackhawks organization has officially announced the financial terms of a contract.
Davidson was invited to training camp on a PTO (professional tryout) earlier in September, and has played a couple of games with the Blackhawks this preseason and out shined free agent signing Brandon Manning for most of the preseason.
The 6’2″ 208 lbs 27-year-old defenseman began last season with the Edmonton Oilers, and played 23 games with the organization. At the 2018 NHL trade deadline, Edmonton flipped him to the New York Islanders for a third round pick. He has also spent time with the Montreal Canadiens during his career.
Davidson is also a cancer survivor, battling the disease in his first professional season. Upon returning from his treatment, he was awarded the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award as the American Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship determination and dedication to hockey.
