WATCH: Blackhawks Players Earn Bronze Medal in IIHF World Championships

  

The USA Hockey team earned a bronze medal earlier today by beating Canada 4-1.  After getting shutout by Sweden 6-0, on Saturday, the United States team drew the Canadian team, who had lost to the Swiss team.

The US team took a 1-0 lead about seven minutes into the second period on a goal by Chris Kreider of the NY Rangers, assisted by Alex Debrincat. Canada tied the game late in the second period on a goal by Marc-Edouard Vlasic of the San Jose Sharks, which left the game tied going into the third period.

In the third period Canada ran out of gas, and the US team scored three unanswered goals by Nick Bonino of the Nashville Predators, Anders Lee of the NY Islanders, and Kreider’s second of the game to take home the bronze medal.

Blackhawks forwards Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat each had assists in the bronze medal game, while defenseman Connor Murphy was held off the scoresheet.

For the tournament Kane, who was the captain of the United States team, led all players with 20 points (8G-12A) while DeBrincat was tied for 20th overall with a goal and eight assists for the US team.

Blackhawks center Artem Anisimov had a good tournament, as well, tallying three goals and five assists in eight games for the Russian team.  The Russia team was eliminated early from bracket play by the Canadian team 5-4 in overtime on Thursday.
