On Friday morning, the Chicago Blackhawks placed defenseman Jan Rutta on injured reserve, retroactive to February 6, and recalled Carl Dahlstrom from the Rockford IceHogs.
Dahlstrom Recalled By Blackhawks
The Chicago defensive group has been more or less of an adventure this season with not one player in the regular group playing up to their potential or the standards that have been set by their previous play. In response to injury and the need to see fresh faces in the lineup, the Blackhawks placed Jan Rutta on injured reserve and recalled AHL All-Star defenseman Carl Dahlstrom.
This season with the IceHogs, Dahlstrom has 23 points (3G, 20A) and leads the team in +/- with a +14 rating. Dahlstrom has regularly been used in all situations for the IceHogs, getting ample time on the powerplay and penalty kill units.
An intriguing move for Chicago figuring that Cody Franson and Gustav Forsling remain with the IceHogs. But the Blackhawks need to see what they have in their prospects/farm system because changes are coming soon for the slumping organization.
What’s Next?
The Blackhawks are back in action on Saturday night as they travel to take on the Minnesota Wild at 7pm. The IceHogs take on the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday night in Rockford at 7pm and then travel to Iowa to take on the Iowa Wild on Saturday night.
