Continuing a minor overhaul of the middle to bottom of their roster this morning, the Blackhawks announced the signing of 27 year old UFA center/left wing Matthias Janmark to a one year, $2.25 million deal.
Originally drafted in the 3rd round of the 2013 draft by Detroit, the 6’1”, 195 pound Janmark has been a fixture on the Dallas Stars’ penalty kill the last few seasons. A fairly reasonable comparable for Janmark is former Hawk Marcus Kruger, although Janmark is not particularly strong on faceoffs.
Expect him to skate primarily as a third or fourth line left wing with a significant role killing penalties, essentially replacing Zack Smith. Again, as we pointed out this morning, this is another move this offseason that backfills a recently vacated role on the roster.
