On Tuesday evening, the Chicago Blackhawks recalled forward Alexandre Fortin from the Rockford IceHogs. Fortin had played in both of the IceHogs’ first two games of the AHL season, tallying no points with two shots on goal.
Alexandre Fortin Recalled To The Blackhawks
Fortin has been an intriguing prospect in the Chicago Blackhawks system since he arrived in the Summer of 2016. Making an immediate impact with Chicago during Prospect Camp and Training Camp that Summer, Fortin was one of the last cuts before being sent back to the QMJHL to play his final season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Fortin finished his QMJHL career with 135 points (52 G, 83 A) in 173 regular season games and 28 points (14 G, 14A) in 39 playoff games.
Fortin came into the 2017-18 season with another shot to make the Blackhawks roster out of the Summer camps, but failed to do so and played the entire season with the Rockford IceHogs. In his first professional season, Fortin battled through a number of injury setbacks, playing in 53 games with the IceHogs and tallying 21 points (4 G, 17A).
The Blainville, Quebec native had yet another solid performance over this Summer’s training camp with the Blackhawks, but was once again one of the final cuts to go back to Rockford. But, with a roster spot to work with and an injury to Andreas Martinsen, the Blackhawks are giving Fortin a real shot to make his NHL debut.
