The Chicago Steel dropped both games in Cedar Rapids this past weekend, snapping their 13-game winning streak. With the losses, Chicago found themselves on the wrong side of the scoresheet for the first time since Nov. 29, 2019.
On Friday, Chicago outshot the RoughRiders 30–27 but fell behind 3–1 after two periods of play. Forward Mathieu De St. Phalle scored his 20th goal of the season early in the first period. The goal came from a nice feed from Luke Reid and Brendan Brisson.
Chicago’s only other goal in the game came when Mackie Samoskevich scored his ninth goal on the season. The goal, which cut the lead to 4–2, was assisted by Sam Colangelo and Matt Coronato.
Goaltender Victor Ostman took the loss while stopping 22 shots.
Chicago dropped their second straight the following day after falling behind early 2–0, only to fall to the home team 7–3.
Chicago received goals from Tyler Carpenter, Erik Middendorf and Owen Power. Goaltender Ian Shane stopped 26 shots in the loss.
