The Chicago Blackhawks (20–40–9) fell on home ice to the Los Angeles Kings (37–21–9) by the final of 3–1, despite a 30-save effort by goaltender Spencer Knight. Chicago fell behind 2–0 early and the more structured and veteran Kings did not take their foot off the gas pedal and allow the less-talented Blackhawks to make any sort of real comeback in their sixth straight defeat.
“I thought it was a really mature win because two goals early, and then that’s it until the empty net (goal late in the game),” Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper said postgame. “We didn’t change the way we were playing, made sure we were defending hard all game. That’s a big road win for us.”
First period
Kings forward Trevor Moore scored his 14th goal of the season at the 8:45 mark of the opening frame on an unassisted wrist shot that beat Knight blocker side off the post and into the net.

A minute later, forward Alex Turcotte scored on a nice tip-in from defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov to extend the Kings’ lead to 2–0. Chicago lost the draw in their own zone and were caught scrambling before the world-class tip-in by Turcotte.

Second period
Connor Bedard scored his 19th goal of the season on the power play, as the Blackhawks finally put the puck behind Keumper. Tyler Bertuzzi held the puck at the extended goal line and drew a few Kings defenders to stop moving, and found a wide-open Bedard to shorten the Kings lead to 2–1.

Third period
Chicago would only muster six shots on goal as the team’s “desperation” mode looked limp until Kings defenseman Joel Edmundson scored an empty-net goal at the 19:41 mark to give the Kings a 3–1 victory.

Analysis
Knight kept the lifeless Blackhawks in the game with his 30-save effort. The young goaltender has shown glimpses of what made him the top goaltender prospect in his draft year.
Chicago looked tired after a long week of practice and after a lengthy stretch of losses. As the season comes to an end, it may be time to get the young kids extended playing time.
There is no sugar coating this one for the Blackhawks. This looked like a team ready to golf.
