Wednesday, May 6 is National Nurses Day in the United States. It marks the start of Nurses Week, which runs until May 12. As we know, the global COVID-19 pandemic has made healthcare workers across the world the M-V-P’s of our society. To help those healthcare workers in the Rockford area, the Rockford IceHogs have set up a fund to support their local workers, headed by team captain Tyler Sikura and his IceHogs teammates.
Sikura announced the fund on his Twitter account on Tuesday evening.
(2/2) with childcare, groceries, etc. I have collected $1000 in donations from the players and we are asking you, the best fans in the AHL, to match it to support the frontline workers who are putting themselves and their families at risk to save lives https://t.co/NADogRHdU6

The fund, named “IceHogs Players’ Fund for Health Care Workers,” has a goal of $2,000 and was given a head start by the IceHogs players pooling together the first $1,000. Their hope is to have fans match their donation, and then some. As of writing this, the fund is less than $300 shy of reaching the $2,000 goal in less than 24 hours.
If you would like to donate to the fund, you can do so through the GoFundMe page here.
