The Chicago Steel made a mid season trade, this afternoon, to bolster their roster for the Clark Cup stretch run. They acquired forward (and Blackhawks draft pick) Josiah Slavin as well as defenseman Hunter Carrick from the Lincoln Stars in exchange for forward Ryan Doolin, draft picks, and future considerations.
Slavin, a 6’3″ 190 lbs. (primarily) left-wing, is a 2018 7th round selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL Entry Draft. He is also is the younger brother of former Steel and current Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin. He has served at the Lincoln captain and is second on the team in scoring with 28 points (10G,18A) in 32 games. During this summer’s Blackhawks development camp he turned quite a few heads, but is committed to Colorado College for next season.
Carrick, a 6’1′ 183 lbs Orland Park native, is the younger brother of another NHLer in defenseman Connor Carrick. He has two goals in ten games this season for the Stars, and is committed to Penn State next season.
Lincoln will also receive the Steel’s 2019 Phase 2 2nd, 3rd, and 9th Round picks as well as a conditional 2020 Phase 1 3rd Round pick as well as future considerations. Chicago also receives Lincoln’s 2019 Phase 2 4th round pick as part of the trade.
The Steel return to the Fox Valley Ice Arena for a pair of weekend games against the defending Clark Cup Champion Fargo Force on Saturday, Jan. 26 and Sunday, Jan. 27. Saturday is Game of Thrones Night, celebrating the matchup between the last two Clark Cup Champions. It’s also a Raising Cane’s Kids Day with a $10 deal for kids that includes a Red Zone ticket, Steel drawstring backpack and free Raising Cane’s kids combo card. Sunday is a Steel Family Pack game on Trains, Trains, Trains day presented by Wausau Homes North Aurora.
