Wolves top IceHogs 5–2 in home opener

Weekly scores

Friday, Oct. 21 — Chicago 5, Rockford 2

In what was a close affair after Rockford tied the score at 2–2 early in the third period, the visiting Chicago Wolves ruined the season home opener for the IceHogs with three straight goals to finish off the 5–2 decision.

The difference in the third period were the two power play goals scored by Chicago. Cole Schneider and Chris Terry each scored with the man advantage, Terry’s goal was an empty-net tally, and Dominic Franco scored his second goal of the young season.

Rockford found the back of the net in the second period when Isaak Phillips beat Wolves goaltender Adam Scheel for his first goal of the season. Rockford scored the game-tying goal when Joey Anderson scored his second of the season early in the third period before Chicago would rip off their next three goals to finish the game.

Goaltender Drew Commesso faced 29 shots while turning aside 25 for the loss.

High on the Hog

It was good to see Phillips find the back of the net. The late training camp release by the Chicago Blackhawks continues to show he is continuing to develop along the blue line.

Anders Bjork led the team with four shots on goal.

Left wing Mike Hardman added an assist and finished the game +1.
